SAASST Receives a Delegation from Mexico

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) received on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020, a delegation from Mexico. Their visit included an introduction to the Academy and the laboratories it houses such as the CubeSat Laboratory, the Meteorite Center, the Space Weather, and Ionosphere Laboratory, the Sharjah Optical Observatory, Radio Astronomy Laboratory, and the High Energy Astrophysics Laboratory, as well as the ongoing research projects including the CubeSat to be launched by the end of 2020, the 40-m Radio Interferometer that includes three 5-meter dishes, and the UAE Meteor Monitoring Network.

The delegation was also informed of the Master’s programs the Academy will offer in the upcoming year as well as its achievement of publishing more than 30 scientific papers and articles in international peer-reviewed journals.

SAASST aims to expand knowledge of the field of radio astronomy and its significance for the study of the Universe following the vision set by its founder, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah. His Highness established SAASST as a national development project that supports the UAE space sector through its research projects, the development of space technology, and the promotion of scientific research that serves and develops society.

The delegation also made a tour of SAASST’s Space Exhibition including the Universe in the Holy Qur’an Exhibition and enjoyed a special Planetarium show.
