Observation of A Prominent Magnetic Filament with SOO

A prominent magnetic filament was observed on the surface of the Sun on June 22, 2022, by Mr. Mohamed Talafha using the Sharjah Optical Observatory. A 105 mm solar refractor telescope equipped with an alpha hydrogen filter was used to take this snapshot picture.

Filaments are associated with various forms of solar activity. They last for days, frequently hanging above active regions of the Sun. In addition, filament channels are often the origin of eruptions from the Sun’s surface. These filament structures are largely due to magnetic field forces that suspend the filaments against the downward pull of gravity.
