SAASST Participation in the 15th UoS Research Forum

The CubeSat Laboratory at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology participated in the University of Sharjah's 15th Research Forum with one single poster related to the development of CubeSats at the CubeSat Lab.

The Sharjah-Sat-1 engineering model was displayed during the forum. The forum's main theme was "Effective Societal Partnership for Impactful and Sustainable Research."

The SAASST poster title was "University Class CubeSats for the Development of Human and Technological Capacities." It is mainly related to the Sharjah-Sat-1 development. This 3U+ CubeSat was the first small satellite mission of Sharjah Academy of Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) and the University of Sharjah (UoS), in collaboration with Istanbul Technical University Space Systems Design and Test Laboratory (ITU-SSDTL) and Sabanci University (SU). It carries a primary payload of an improved X-ray Detector to study and observe bright X-ray sources in our galaxy and the Sun's coronal holes. In addition, it also includes a secondary payload, a dual camera system, which will be used for remote sensing applications and Earth imaging. Universities and educational institutes are showing significant interest in CubeSats due to their lower costs and shorter development period. This makes the CubeSat an ideal tool for involving university students in the process of designing, testing, and operating satellite missions, offering them a valuable hands-on experience in the space industry.
