Radio Astronomy Workshop

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences,  and Technology is organizing, on May 30, 2023, a "Radio Astronomy Workshop" consisting of several specialized lectures on observational radio astronomy.

This captivating field of scientific exploration focuses on studying celestial objects and phenomena using radio waves. By observing the universe at radio wavelengths, astronomers can uncover information about cosmic objects such as galaxies, stars, pulsars, and even the remnants of the Big Bang. In addition, radio waves can penetrate dust clouds and travel long distances without significant absorption, allowing us to observe objects that might be obscured at other wavelengths. With powerful radio telescopes and sophisticated data analysis techniques, observational radio astronomy continues to unveil new insights into the universe's structure, dynamics, and evolution, expanding our knowledge of the cosmos and inspiring further astronomical discoveries.

The program of the workshop is as described below:

  • 10:00 – 10:30 The importance of the Radio Universe - Ilias Fernini
  • 10:30 – 11:00 Radio Signals and Systems - Mr. Mohammad Rihan
  • 11:00 – 11:30 Radio Data Acquisition through HTTP Requests - Mr. Mohammad Musharraf
  • 11:30 – 11:45 Coffee Break
  • 11:45 – 12:05 Data Reduction in Radio Astronomy - Ms. Arzoo Noorani
  • 12:05 – 12:40 Morphological Classification of Extragalactic Radio Sources - Mr. Abdollah Masoud
  • 12:40 – 13:00 Observing the Disturbed Sun - Mr. Mohammad Rihan & Ms. Samar Hassan
