Three HCT Students Finished their 14 Weeks Summer Internship at SAASST

After 14 weeks of hard work, three Students from the Sharjah High College of Technology finally finished their summer internships at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology. The students were enrolled in the CubeSat Laboratory as it was related to their background as Engineers.

Maitha Hassan Malalla Khalfan Alhammadi (Electrical Engineering), Nowf Abdulwahaid Dharam Bait Aldhahin (Electrical Engineering), and Shehab Ahmed Saeed Aljeaidi Alhadhrami (Aviation Maintenance) were supervised by four of our research assistants from the CubeSat Lab (Tarifa Al-Kabi, Ibrahim al-Sabt, Sahith Madara, and Mohamed BinAshour). The internees went through all the technologies related to the CubeSats and were able to use many software applications like STK, Catia, Thermica, etc. As a term project, the students were able to design a 1U CubeSat with a EUV detector as a primary payload to study the Sun’s Ultraviolet radiation. The presentation of this project was on Wednesday, Sep. 02 in front of all SAASST faculty members and research assistants.

It is good to mention that during the Summer of 2020, SAASST accepted 24 students to do their summer internships on its premises. The duration of these internships was from 8 to 14 weeks. The internees were able to choose among the five SAASST research laboratories: the “Meteorite Center,” the “CubeSat Laboratory,” the “Radio Astronomy Laboratory,” the “Space Weather Laboratory,” and the “High Energy Astrophysics Laboratory.” This is to highlight the excellent reputation that SAASST has as a prestigious research facility where students can get an excellent experience in the field of space sciences.
