Prof. Hamid Al-Naimiy Visits MBRSC

HE Prof. Hamid al-Naimiy, the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UoS) and Director General of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) visited the Mohamed Bin Rashed Space Center (MBRSC) on Feb. 17, 2023. Prof. Mashhoor Al-Wardat and Prof. Ilias Fernini accompanied Prof. Hamid.

SAASST Participation in UAE Innovates 2023

UAE Innovates is a nationwide celebration and one of the largest innovation festivals in the world. It was launched in 2015 and has become a yearly flagship event in the United Arab Emirates.

The University of Sharjah has graduated its second student with a Master of Science degree in Astronomy and Space Sciences.

Eng. Chip Doherty NASA Space Shuttle Engineer

Eng. Chip Doherty, a former Space Shuttle Systems Engineer, visited the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and technology (SAASST) on Feb. 16, 2023, to give a special lecture on his experience during the space shuttle era.

Active sunspot AR3213 exploded during the early hours of Feb 10, 2023, at 03:03 UT and produced two Type-III radio bursts followed by a Type-II burst.

High Energy Astrophysics Workshop

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology organized a "High Energy Astrophysics" workshop on Jan. 31, 2023.

A star gazing session was held in the Al-Faya region, near Sharjah, by the Sharjah Optical Observatory of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology for the students enrolled in the Professional Diploma in Optical Astronomical Observation program.

EHS at SAASST

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology organized a lecture under the theme “Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS).”

At 10:02 am on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology (SAASST) of the University of Sharjah (UoS) successfully received the first communication signal from its first CubeSat, Sharjah-Sat-1, when it reached its orbit around the Earth.

Prof. Martin Barstow's Visit to SAASST

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) received the visit of Prof. Martin Barstow, a member of the University of Sharjah Board of Trustees, on Jan. 17, 2023. Prof. Nouar Thabet, the Dean of the College of Sciences, accompanied Prof. Martin.

His Excellency, Prof. Hamid Al-Naimiy, the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, and the Director General of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), gave the closing lecture of the 4th SIFHAMS International Graduate Winter School on Jan. 10, 2023.

Sharjah-Sat-1 was finally launched on Jan. 03, 2023, onboard Falcon 9, Transporter 6. After a record-setting year of launch activity in 2022, SpaceX kicked off the new year on Jan. 3 with more than 110 smallsats. Sharjah-Sat-1 is a 3U+ CubeSat, carrying a primary payload consisting of an X-ray detector to study bright X-ray sources in our Galaxy and a dual camera system as a secondary, remote-sensing application payload. It is the first small satellite mission of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) and the University of Sharjah (UoS).

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology organized a special lecture on Jan. 04, 2023, under the title "The Importance of Studying Meteorite Breccias and their Constituents."

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology is hosting the 4th SIFHAMS International Graduate Winter School. The theme of this year's edition is "Scientific Tradition in Islamic Civilization."

Non-flare Solar Radio Burst

After the solar activity's return, a few solar radio bursts are taking place.
