HE Prof. Hamid Al-Naimiy's Visit to SAASST
HE Prof. Hamid Al-Naimiy, the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, and Director General of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), made a courteous visit to SAASST on Thursday, Oct. 06, 2022, and met all SAASST employees.
SAASST Seminar “All about Clouds” By Mr. Mohamed Rihan
The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology started its series of general lectures for the academic year 2022-2023 with a lecture title “All About Clouds” to celebrate the "World Ozone Day" of Sep. 16, 2022. The lecture was presented by Mr. Mohamed Rihan, a research assistant at the Radio Astronomy Laboratory.
SAASST Participates in the 73rd IAC Paris Meeting with 16 Papers
The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) is participating in the 73rd International Astronautical Congress in Paris for the period of Sep. 18-22, 2022, with an exceptional number of 16 papers.
The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) Approves SAASST Membership
After being approved as a full member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 2019, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) has now been approved to be a full member of the prestigious International Astronautical Federation (IAF).
Radio Blackout Followed by Solar Flare
The Low-Frequency Radio Telescope at SAASST detected a sudden ionospheric disturbance from 11:05-11:20 (15:05-15:20 local time) on Aug. 29, 2022. This radio blackout affected frequencies below 21 MHz.

An Unstable Filament of Magnetism Erupted Sending a CME
On July 15th, 2022, at 19:00 UT (23:00 UAE local time), NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded a solar eruption followed by a CME that hurled into space.
SAASST Holds General Lecture Titled "Cubesat Technologies"
Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology held a general lecture titled "Cubesat Technologies" on July 20th, 2022. The lecture, given by Ms. Maryam Alansaari, a research assistant at SAASST, spoke about how satellites came to be, the different kinds of satellites, and their many uses.

SAASST 44th COSPAR Greece Participation
The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology has participated in COSPAR 44th General Assembly (July 16-24, 2022). Five laboratories, namely, the High Energy Physics lab, the Space AI Lab, the Meteorite Center, the CubeSat Lab, and the Radio Astronomy Lab, took part in this assembly by delivering talks and poster presentations.

The Sharjah Museums Authority organized a visit to the academy for Bait Sheikh Saeed bin Hamad Al Qasimi Museum staff to explore the academy and its various departments that simulate astronomy and space sciences.

Exploded Sunspot Causes a Double Radio Burst
The Low-Frequency Radio Telescope at SAASST detected two radio bursts on Friday, 8 July 2022. The first radio burst occurred at 08:18 UT (12:18 UAE local time), while the second one, a double burst, was at 11:25 UT (15:25 UAE local time) in the HF radio band only.
Huge Magnetic Filament Observed on the Sun’s Surface on July 12, 2022
The Sharjah Optical Observatory team managed to spot a great ionic cloud on the surface of the Sun called magnetic filaments and noticed its increasing solar activity and huge size. The event happened on July 12, 2022, and the 90 mm H-alpha filter was used to take the picture.
Triple Solar Radio Burst Observed on July 03, 2022
The Low-Frequency Radio Telescope at SAASST detected on July 03, 2022, a strong triple solar radio burst covering the HF band only at 08:28 UT (12:28 local time).
