SAASST UAEMMN Observations

The UAE Meteor Monitoring Network (UAEMMN) caught a spectacular meteor entering Earth’s atmosphere on Nov. 09, 2022, at 01:46:16.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) has participated in Kalba’s Fourth Florence Fair in coordination with the Department of Economic Development and the Ministry of Interior.

In the International Conference on Electrical and Computing Technologies and Applications (ICECTA 2022) held by the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and technology (SAASST) presented two papers as part of its participation.

Report on the Sharjah-Sat-1 Workshop

4th SHAW-IAU Workshop 2022

From the 15th to the 17th of November 2022 (UTC), the 4th Shaw-IAU Workshop on Astronomy for Education was held.

Dr. Sitha K. Jagan from the Department of Physics at the University of Calicut (Kerala-India) gave a seminar at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology organized on Nov. 16, 2022, under the title “Blazars at High-Energies: the Clues and the Questions.”

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology had the visit of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, the Deputy Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, to check on the Sharjah-Sat-1 CubeSat built by Emirati engineers at the Academy.

Radio Astronomy Workshop

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology organized a special "Radio Astronomy Workshop" on Nov. 03, 2022. The workshop aims to introduce the basics of radio astronomy and the different frequency ranges used in radio observations.

SAASST UAEMMN Detects a Huge Fireball

A spectacular fireball was captured by the UAE Meteor Monitoring Network (UAEMMN) on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022. This fireball belongs to the Taurid meteor shower, which occurs every year from the end of October to the beginning of November when the debris stream from Comet 2P/Encke hits Earth.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology organized a special lecture on Oct. 26, 2022, under the title “The Remarkable Life of Stars.” The lecture was given by Mr. Ammar Abdulla, an MSc student in Astronomy and Space Sciences at the University of Stars.

The Orionids are a moderately intense meteor shower that sometimes reaches extreme activity levels. The shower is active from September 26th to November 22nd, 2022. It is expected to peak on Oct. 20–21, 2022, when the Moon phase is waning crescent, 21% full.

Report on the Partial Solar Eclipse

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology has organized a special observing session for the partial solar eclipse of Oct. 25, 2022. More than 1,000 people witnessed this rare event that will not happen in the United Arab Emirates until Aug. 02, 2027.
